Managing your network users in a Small Business Server 2008 (SBS2008) Network is easier than you may think by using Groups, Roles and the built in User manager functions. Before you get started, plan out how you want to logically organize your user base in terms of resource acceess (security), file and email quotas, and special email distribution.
Security Groups: Security groups are great for controlling access. You can organize users into groups and grant permissions to the group. This is much more efficient than modifying each individual user. In addition, security groups can be email enabled and can also archive email into a SharePoint data library.
Roles: Roles are used when creating a user to define the users permissions. When creating a role, security groups can be used to shape role characteristics.
